Girls Weekend and a Milestone

This one’s for Aunt Dolly.

Memorial Day weekend, Rich went to Appleton, Wisconsin for the national Forensics tournament, so Nora and I had some quality girl time.  It was a nice, relaxing weekend.  The forensics kids didn’t place, but the all tried hard and learned a lot.  They made it to nationals, so we are really proud of them.

Nora and I had a nice weekend.  We went for walks in South Park, visited Miles, Katie, and Autumn, and went over to see Grandma and Granddad. Nora is sleeping about 10 hours a night, so I got to catch up on my sleep.  Now, if I could only get the dogs to do the same.

Of course, when Rich is away, Nora rolls over.  She rolled from back to front on Saturday.  Since then, she has shown no interest in doing it again.  It’s amazing to me how much she has changed.  She loves to laugh, a real laugh, and squeals to herself.  She is starting to explore everything with her hands and has started playing with her toys.  She can hold her head up all the time now, too.  I love just sitting and watching her.

Only a few more days for me until summer.  We are really looking forward to all the time we will be able to spend with Nora.

Mother’s Day and Nora Update

Last Sunday was my first Mother’s Day and was very special.  In the morning, Rich made me a breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes, then we spent the day out as a family.  The original plan was to go out to lunch and then walk in the park, but the weather did not cooperate.  So, we went to lunch at Panera and then shopping at the mall.  We came home and cooked a yummy dinner for Rich’s family.  Rich and Nora got me a frame with three generations of pictures in it, Grandma, Mom, and Nora.

Nora is growing and changing daily.  She is a sweet and happy baby.  One of our favorite times with her is when she wakes up in the morning.  She is the only one of us that wakes up smiling!  She has started to explore with her hands.  This morning she was running her fingers through a soft blanket.  She has started to reach and grab for her toys and gets a good grasp on Mommy’s hair and Daddy’s glasses.  She is also starting to roll over. She can get onto her side and often sleeps in that position.  We’ll let you know when she gets all the way over.

A few other miscellaneous notes.  Rich and I went on our first night out to see Ellen’s school musical, Les Miserables.  It was an excellent show and Ellen was great!  Nora had her first evening with Grandma and Grandad.  She looks forward to staying again when Rich and I go to John’s wedding.  Kimberly made it safely back to Bolivia and is enjoying her last few months there.  We had a nice visit with her and can’t wait until she’s home for good.  Rich and I are finishing up our last few weeks of school and can’t wait until summer when we can be with Nora all day.

News about Dad for a change

I’ve been coaching the speech and debate team at my school for a year now, and it was a really great year for the kids. At the end of May I am taking 11 kids (and 7 adults as judges) to Appleton, WI. If you are thinking to yourself, what on earth is in Appleton, Wisconsin?  You are not alone.  In fact, I don’t know anyone who has actually heard of Appleton.  Oh well, we are only there for a two day tournament.

In June, I head to Las Vegas with our four qualifying kids to the National tournament there.  Marie and the Baby are coming along, and it is a week of tournament.  Hopefully we find some time ot see the sights while we are there.

We had a nice article in the local paper “National Events Await USC Forensics Team” (coincidentally the article appeared next to another article about my school department and an award we won recently.
