Viva Las Vegas!

HI! We are writing from sunny Las Vegas, Nevada — well, Henderson to be precise, but everyone calls   the whole metro area as Vegas anyway.  We are in day three of the tournament, and are enjoying the city.  Nora did really well on the plane, not really crying much at all, only when we were getting off the plane did she scream at the top of her lungs.  I suppose she preferred it at 36,000 feet.

It is here!  108 (F) (42C) – Although we are not used to this heat, it is, as they say, a dry heat.  Quite bearable.  Even so, we have stuck mostly to the air conditioning and cooler spots.

I was in rounds all day Monday.  I judged 31 seven minute extemporaneous speeches in a row.  Lets just say, that I was ready to claw my eyes out at that point.  The nice thing is, that meant that I am free until Thursday afternoon when I have one more judging responsibility.

Yesterday morning Nora and I went the the Miracle Mile shops while the students were competing.  We walked through the casino floor, and looked at shops that we couldn’t afford.  We even cheaped out, eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that we brought along.  I think we undid all of the frugality by buying two small gelatos for over $9! sigh! This is a fun place, and we might come back one day, but without kids, and when we have money (so in forty years.)

Cute pictures (and video!)

Dad here — I’ve been uploading a bunch of new pictures to our Flickr account, so if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, head to Flickr.

As Marie has told you Nora is doing really well. She is a happy baby, always giggling and smiling. Marie brought her into work on our Field Events Day over lunchtime, and we had to pry the baby back from the ladies that I work with. She was a hit.

Nora has, however, decided that sleeping is overrated, and has gone from the “dream-sleeper” to a bit more restless. Oh well, these things come and go, from what I hear, we could have it much worse. Here are some samples from our shared photos.

Congrats John and Becca

On May 31st, our good friends John and Becca were married at St. Bernard’s Church with a reception at the LeMont.  Rich was a groomsman.  The wedding was beautiful and the weather held out for them.  Nora had a big weekend with Grandma with the rehearsal dinner on Friday and the Wedding on Saturday.  Rich and I had a nice time out and Nora had fun with Grandma and her Aunts.  Here’s some pictures from the wedding:

School’s out…

So, my summer has officially begun.  Well, it began Friday at 1:00, but who’s counting. Rich is finished with school on Friday and then it’s off to Las Vegas with four students for the National Forensics Tournament.  We have an exciting summer planned.  After Las Vegas, we are going to North Carolina for fourth of July and then to the beach in August with Rich’s family.  Between all of that we have a lot of fun and relaxing to do.  We are looking forward to meeting some of my friend’s new additions, Danielle Murphie and Andrew Hunneycutt.  It seems like just yesterday that we were introducing each other to boyfriend’s and fiances and now it’s our kids.

Nora is doing wonderfully and is growing like a weed.  She goes to the doctor in a few weeks and I’m interested in how big she is.  It seems like all we are doing is buying clothes for her!  I know, I know, we should get used to it.

She has started rolling over like a pro.  Now that she can do it, she doesn’t stay on her back for long.  She rolls over in her crib and wakes herself up when her arm gets stuck.  She’s started playing with her toys and loves to feel different textures.  She loves to laugh and squeal.  The ladies at day care were sad to see her go because she is such a happy baby.  She also has started sitting supported.  We bought her a Bumbo seat and a high chair.

I’m attaching some pictures, but we updated some to flikr, so check there as well.
