Happy Spring!

Here on Carmen Dr. we are loving the lovely spring weather! Today is finally reasonable enough to leave the house in spring clothing, instead of 30 degrees in the morning & seventy in the afternoon! We are also looking forward to this summer! Nora finishes up at “School” (daycare) in just a few weeks and we will go from a full-tilt action-packed work schedule to a full-tilt action-packed summer schedule.

On the docket for our time “off”:

  • Rich travels to Birmingham, AL for the National Forensics League Tournament
  • An August wedding of Marie’s Cousin
  • An August Family Reunion
  • A trip to Toronto, eh!
  • Painting Nora’s new bedroom
  • Painting the Kitchen
  • Finishing the seven jobs that are half-done around the house
  • A week in North Carolina
  • Rich’s two-week internship in the Technology Department at USC
  • Rich is ‘project leader’ for a staff development program – so that will be in there somewhere. . .

Man, we are going to need a vacation after summer vacation is over.  I’m tired already!

Thought I would share a quick video of Nora. She is learning where her head, nose, and as you see her belly button are.

Grandma & Grandpa Visit – May 2009

Whew! What a weekend! Frankly we are exhausted, all of us, me, Marie and Nora. Nora took a nap as soons as G&G hit the road (at 9:00am). Ann & RJ arrived Thursday, and although I tried to keep her up to say hello, Nora was desperate to go to sleep. No worries though, she had all day Friday & Saturday to play with them. Frankly I thought she was going to wear them out, but it turned out that the opposite was true.

Grandpa got Nora the bike you see in the pictures below, which she absolutely loves. I’m a big fan too since it has this handy “parent push and steer bar” which means I don’t have to spend the day with my back bent down holding the back of the bike. Genius!

Saturday afternoon turned out to be nice weather, so we all had fun climbing up and down the playground equipment at Lincoln School!

Danielle’s Birthday Party

We received an invitation to Danielle’s first birthday party, located in Southern Virginia. I said, hey, lets do it. Marie wondered if I was out of my mind suggesting that we get up at the crack of dawn (f not before) to race through Washington DC traffic for a 2pm children’s birthday party. Of course she was happy at the chance to see her long time friends Kirsten and Rob too.

It turned out to be a great success. We arrived just in time, enjoyed the great southern weather and Nora was glad for the playtime to stretch out her legs after the trip. She’s a great traveler. Hopefully baby #2 is as compliant.

EDIT: Oh yeah, it is worth mentioning that Nora found this hot weather to be the perfect excuse to sit down in a bucket of ice water.  The ensuing nude baby pictures have been omitted, sorry.

Washington DC (and Aunt Kimmie!)

As part of our marathon sprint around this part of the country, we headed back north to Washington, DC on Sunday morning to visit Kimberly, who got a job and is getting settled in the city. The weather held up for us to take a stroll around the National Mall & then we headed out and had a nice lunch in the city before strapping Nora back into the car seat (not without a fight) for the trip back home.

Easter (and Deborah’s BIrthday)

We had a nice Easter Sunday together this year. We celebrated Easter Sunday in the Morning at the Church we have been attending since the New Year. Mum joined us on Easter. We really like the experience we have had in the past months as we discovered a vibrant alternative worship service and a community of young adults that have really made us feel like we belong there. (but I digress . . . )We spent the rest of the day all together at mum’s house playing games, relaxing, and eating the enormous ham that was the requested dish of the birthday girl (Deborah.)
